Netherlands-based arts and culture publication Simulacrum explores a different theme with every issue. Platforming topics from both historical and contemporary perspectives, their features are written by both established experts and up-and-coming writers (student writers are welcome here).

This latest issue examines the theme of ‘Drift(ing)’, looking at what it means to move through an ever-changing world—navigating uncertainty and embracing complexity, whilst ultimately hoping to be carried to shore. Contributors explore this fluid state through a range of topics, including adolescent rebellion, life between two cities, Roma musicians in Budapest, and the fleeting character of light sculptures.

Elsewhere, two artists interpret the theme through their distinct visual practices: Camille Richardson’s collages, made from magazine clippings, convey the disorder of a wandering mind, juxtaposing Boris Peters crisp photographic documentation of a glacier expedition in Karakoram, Pakistan.

An exploration of drifting in all its forms.
