The Italian cycling title Alvento takes a people-centric approach to the sport by celebrating those who have ‘chosen bikes as a means of expressing themselves.’ As for the name? It's Italian for ‘in the wind,’ its many uses in cycling (and everyday) chat outlined on the final page of the magazine.
Previously published exclusively in Italian, the independent cycling title now aims to ‘go a bit further’ by publishing in English. With their content—profiling cyclists, covering races, and sharing two-wheeled journeys from around the world—the magazine remains firmly Italian, with this international version translating all the same features from the original Italian edition.
Issue #41 adopts a more political stance than devoted readers may be used to, underlining the intrinsic relationship between cycling and the public arena. As editorial director Davide Marta poignantly asserts in this issue’s opening letter, ‘cycling cannot cut itself off from the rest of the world because the world is its stage… so cycling becomes a mirror of our times, fragile and unpredictable, and perhaps that is why it is so popular’. Inside, you’ll find a conversation with emerging young talent Giulio Pellizzari; an informative feature covering the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda—the first competition of its kind ‘to be held in the over-125-year history of the UCI’; plus, a humorous summer travel journal, documenting 42-year-old cycling enthusiast Stefano Francescutti’s experience attempting the 1,600km London-Edinburgh-London randonnée.
