‘Occupying the nascent space between standardised fashion editorial and arcane academe’

Pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a magazine, Archivist Addendum is a non-seasonal academic fashion publication comprised of a stapled uncoated card box containing a collection of written texts and visual ephemera. Through the documents selection and containment they become part of a curated whole, whilst their loose format defies a uniform reading.

The project was inspired by the late fashion journalist Anna Piaggi’s formative ‘box’ reports for Italian Vogue in the 1970s, as well as art director Jane Howard’s own box filing of ‘fashion industry left-overs’; both practices illuminating ‘alternative ways of using fashion and working within it as a system’. Amongst the many texts featured within, this first edition takes a look at an international collaborative project headed by the dress historian Rebecca Arnold that explored the link between ‘dress, medium and meaning’.
