‘Essays on queer living’
Tell Me How You Really Feel is the much anticipated new launch from magCulture alum Danielle Mustarde, featuring anonymous essays from queer writers across the UK. Designed by Osman Bari—the pair met whilst working at the shop in 2021—its bold and direct design acts as the perfect vehicle for exploring ‘BIG human themes from a queer point of view’.
This inaugural issue attempts to trace the perimeters of ‘Home’, with a ghostly outline emerging as the twelve featured writers rub out and redraw what ‘Home’ means to them. In the words of Danielle: ‘What I do remember is being drawn to the theme of ‘Home’, an idea I’d been trying to put my finger on. I was struggling to understand what it meant to me—where it should be, when it should be, how it should feel, and who else it might house. And so the two ideas came together: I’d ask other, wiser (queer) people to tell me how they really feel about ‘Home’ and what it means to them.’
Alongside twelve essays of varying length—touching on themes of identity and familial, romantic and platonic relationships—you’ll also find photography by Sam Miller, tinged with the faint melancholy of nostalgia for a time and place perceived as simpler only in retrospect.
