WIC (West Indian Creatives) Magazine is a new arts and culture title spotlighting and connecting ‘emerging and established voices in the African and Caribbean regions.’ Through themed issues—the debut issue tackled the forces (‘beyond geography’) that shape identity—WIC seeks to celebrate and shine a light on the global influence of its featured contributors. As editor and creative director Alyssa Janae asserts: ‘We believe that our talent should be seen worldwide, because the references and way that we inspire the wider industry is more visible than we are.’

This sophomore edition—themed ‘Spirits and Stories’ and adorned with a psychedelic painting by Wolverhampton-based Montserratian artist Izrahyel—seeks to usher in connection and rediscover the ancestral ties that continue to shape our lives today. Expect a variety of features, including a deep dive into the contrasting symbolism of masks in African and Western cultures, an African perspective on Surrealism in which the real and unreal coexist, and a personal account from editor Alyssa Janae on aligning with her spirit guides.
