‘The journal of design’

Quarterly Disegno is devoted to exploring the many facets of design and its impact on the world today. Following the return of the core magazine last issue, after a few issues of their more recently launched supplementary publication Design Reviewed, Disegno is back with issue #40 for Autumn 2025—a compilation of ‘short stories about freedom and design’.

Editor Oli Stratford opens the issue with a creative profile of furniture and interiors designer Nipa Doshi, exploring her unique take on the kaavad—a traditional Indian storytelling cabinet. This is followed by features on a sunlit health centre in Copenhagen, a stripped back design project by Jonas Ravlo Stokke, whimsical animal-shaped glass jewellery boxes, Palestinian protest ephemera, a collaborative kite club in the Netherlands, and the complexity of carceral architecture and design.

On the Journal:
‘In his introduction to the magazine, editor Oli Stratford admits that his own definition of the word ‘design’ is fractured; ‘What even is design? To tell you the truth, we at Disegno have no idea.’ Disegno generates content that looks at the impact of design both artistically and politically, and not just at the ins and outs of how things are made.’ READ MORE
