No Culture Books #2

146 x 210 mm, 24 pages (staple bound)
Since 2025
Exeter, UK
Photographer: John Sealey

This zine series from photographer John Sealey borrows its title from Mark Fisher and his theories surround the contemporary stasis and repetitive nature of culture, as he once observed: ‘a culture that is merely preserved…is no culture at all’.

This sophomore edition of No Culture Books revisits a series of photographs captured in Berlin between 1992 and 1996, exploring the ineffable atmosphere—or ‘stimmung’—of the years following the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Colour and back and white imagery combine to show the run-down buildings, streets and people of the era. As Sealey notes in the accompanying essay, ‘A revolution of sorts was happening right in front of my eyes’.
