‘Board games are beautiful’
A magazine about the craft, creativity and community of board games. Top fact, the magazine is named after ‘the oldest known board game, dating back to around 3,000 BCE in Egypt.’
This Spring 2026 edition follows a successful festive feature with The Guardian, and welcomes any new readers to the beguiling board game world of Senet. Opening with a healthy selection of highly anticipated board games due in the coming weeks, the issue features interviews with the likes of Jom Semah, the artist transforming cards from board game Magic: The Gathering into personalised ephemera, and the genre–defying game designer Amabel Holland, who discusses her career spanning 15 years spent working in the industry.
All this alongside a nostalgic glance back at multiplayer board game Splendour, and an insight into the world of board game box designer Nick Nazzaro, and a whole host of other features and deep dives.
On the Journal
At Work With editor Dan Jolin: ‘It’s a wonderfully social activity—far more so than online video gaming, which has turned pretty toxic in some quarters. If anything, I’d say sitting down at a table with friends, family, or even strangers to share the joy of a board game – whether that’s at home, down the pub, in a board-game café, or at a gaming event – is less ‘geeky’ than sitting at home by yourself and playing on the PlayStation.’
