Published by The Modernist Society, the small-format and currently square-shaped The Modernist (its shape changes regularly) explores 20th century architecture and design via quarterly, themed-issues.

Each year they move to another initial letter for their themes: 2025 is ‘O’, and the year ends with ‘Ordinary,’ guest-edited by Leanne Cloudsale. She writes in her introduction, ‘Ordinary is nourishing. It’s cheese on toast. A three-pin plug. Great social housing. A shelf…’

Ruprt Evans-Harding muses on how the idea of Ordinary has been lost in our digital age of options; David Bickel offers a paeon to theat three-pin plug; Richard Chivers’ ‘Passing Time London’ photo project showcases everyday scenes of the city; and Daneille Pender writes in praise of pebble dash.
