‘A symptom of time spent outdoors’

Joining the likes of Climbers, Sirene et al, Amateurs is a new, generously sized bit of outdoorsy appreciation on our shelves, produced by Brooklyn-based brand FSP. With its Gramicci-meets-geology cover feature, its an aesthetically pleasing (if not explicitly gorp-y) mix of photography, fashion/gear and musings on endeavours in the wild.

Spanning heterogeneous landscapes, from the mountainous region of Hunza Valley in Northern Pakistan to New York’s urban sprawl, this third issue investigates ‘how runners, climbers, surfers, hikers, cyclists, artists and more connect with nature in the modern era’. Highlights include a conversation with seasoned runner Manuel Aguilar, founder of Costa Rica’s answer to Park Run, Club Secreto; an extract from British-Iraqi author Dalia Al-Dujaili’s new book, drawing parallels between the fluid movement of water and her family’s own migration from the Middle East to the West; Parisian designer Lucy Orta on her inspiring ‘Refuge Wear’ collection and how she’s getting ready for October 2025’s British Textile Biennial; and an ode to the ritualistic act of climbing.
