‘Have you ever wondered where your home is?’ is the question new title Immi(n)grant seeks to explore. The magazine takes its name from the Japanese pronunciation of immigrant, ‘imin’, highlighting differences in language that often become pronounced during relocation. Passport-shaped and predominantly text-based, each issue focuses on one guest speaker who has chosen to leave their home country and asks about their sense of home.

This debut issue introduces Kingston Murray, an artist and full-time office worker in Tokyo, Japan. Originally from California, Murray’s speaks with Immi(n)grant about adapting to life in a new culture, navigating language barriers and finding a sense of belonging in unfamiliar surroundings. The conversation reflects how meaningful human connections—often as simple as a genuine conversation—can transform a new place into a home.
