‘Cycling culture’

Independent road cycling staple Rouleur touts itself as ‘the finest cycling journal in the world.’ The name? Rouleur, ‘a rider with strength and style who goes hard on all terrain’.

This 145th issue celebrates the upcoming ‘Tour de France Femme avec Zwift,’ as the women riders set out to conquer the infamous Mont Ventoux in the south of France for the first time, talking to previous riders about the experience and meeting the people behind television coverage of the spectacle. In contrast, there’s a report from Kyiv about the purposes of cycling during wartime.

Back in France, the cyclist’s complex relationship with caffeine is studied, even as writer Tristan Rees acknowledges the poor quality of the local café. Editor Ian Cleverly considers our—British—relationship with coffee, contrasting the rise of the indie coffee shop with our seemingly insatiable appetite for instant coffee. Rouleur definitely sits with the artisanal cold pour rather than the Nescafe.
