[Scenes] is a petite new standalone zine exploring the complex and universal—but still highly subjective—experience of grief. Born from editor and art director Cathou Averback’s personal encounter with depression, it features a loop of eight narrative sequences told from a second person point-of-view. It’s a highly affective language device; the reader becomes the subject, the scenes plausible vignettes from their own lives. Printed on opaque tracing paper, the scenes and images overlap, ‘evoking a sense of confusion, fuzziness, or difficulty in navigating’ that so resonates with the psychological manifestations of grief.
