‘The UK’s only magazine'

The Fence has rapidly developed a devoted readership for its scurrilous and very English mix of humour, investigation and politics. Smartly presented in black and red with copious illustration, it’s a unique publication that describes itself as ‘The UK’s only magazine’. Patently untrue of course, perhaps a better description comes from Graydon Carter: ‘the illegitimate offspring of Private Eye and Evelyn Waugh.’

This is The Fence's sweet 21st featuring an excursion to London’s oldest undertakers (who only organised Horatio, Lord Nelson’s funeral in 1805), a trip to the ‘most palpably mysterious guest house’ on Dalston Kingsland High Street, and an exploration of the ins-and-outs of a long-term jury trial (‘Well, not quite all. That would be contempt.’) And plenty more.
