‘Socialist since 1937’

Tribune is Britain’s oldest democratic socialist publication, relaunched by the US publishers of Jacobin in 2018.

This Summer 2026 issue is themed ‘Late Populism’, arriving as Andy Burnham takes Keir Starmer’s place as the UK’s seventh Prime Minister in a decade. As usual, editor Oliver Eagleton opens the issue with a look at the state of politics today—this time drawing attention to the growing tension between ‘Labour as the historic vehicle for workers’ interests’ and its vested interest in appealing to the masses. Unlike the populism of earlier decades, he argues that the late populism of today presents decline as an ‘inevitable’ state from which to rebuild or capitalise on. Readers can expect articles on the worrying breakdown of social democracy within the Labour Party; Manuel Bompard on La France Insoumise, ‘Europe’s most successful left-populist project’; and the long-standing struggle to combine class and environmental politics to form a fair ‘eco-populism’.
