Awards update

Two awards deadlines loom.

The SPD deadline hits first; indeed the earlybird date has just gone. Entry deadline is January 13. And if you’re abroad, ie not in the US, you can benefit from a 50% discount on all entries. And and there’s a new category for small, self-published magazines. And and and, judging by the selections made by the great and good in the SPD favourite magazine project (see last post), the jury should be approaching the judging with an open mind. These remain the magazine awards, their only fault being a tendency to award the same magazines each year and to overlook foreign publications. Our aim this year is to change this.

Meanwhile the 2012 D&AD Awards have snuck up. The scope and complexity of the awards seems to increase year on year, but their annual remains a great record and there’s a long history of editorial work making it into the book (something I hope to take a closer look at in the new year). The jury is still being finalised, entry deadline is February 1.
