The Modernist turns 40
We’re excited to restart our Shop events programme this month, and even more so to be welcoming the team from The Modernist to share their 40th issue.
Join us in person on Thursday 16 September to hear founding editor Eddy Rhead discussing the magazine and its story to date with Jeremy Leslie.
As well as sharing a visual history of The Modernist, they’ll be talking about the growth of the magazine, the launch of their Manchester gallery/shop (above), and the brand new 40th issue. Themed ‘Kudos’, the issue features contributions from the magazine’s friends and supporters. Each shares their favourite modernist icon.
Ticketholders will also get a first taste of the magazine’s new beer, named ‘Feierabendbier’—German for ‘after work beer,’—plus a unique pin featuring the ‘40’ logo based on the Jock Kinnear and Margaret Calvert’s British roadsign system, itself a modernist icon.
Ticket numbers are limited to maintain social distancing on the night. We ask that you please do a lateral flow test the day before the event whether you are double-vaccinated or not, and bring a facemask on the evening.
Tickets are £10, and on sale now.
