Out now: Victory
Victory is a new sports magazine from New York specialising in the glory of competition rather than the numerical analysis that so many sports mags indulge in.
It takes advantage of its large A3 format with plenty of full-out photography, including this example (above) from the Magnum archive.
The cover story (above), shot by Christopher Anderson, caught my eye as the joutes nautiques (maritime jousting) from Sete, Languedoc it features was the highlight of a family holiday a few years back. Watching groups of men on two boats row at each other and try to knock each other into the water is a rare but spectacular sport, and it’s great to see it recorded in Victory.
