The magCulture shop must be built
If you were at ModMag15 you’ll already know we’re opening a magazine shop in central London. It’s been long-held personal ambition, and earlier this year I decided it was time to realise it. After months of looking for the right space I finally found it – ironically an ex-newsagents – in July, since when the legals and decorating have seen time evaporate.
The magCulture Shop will be a magazine shop, not a books and magazine shop or a gifts and magazine shop. We won’t be serving coffee or selling phonecards. You’ll find a few books about magazines plus other publications and projects from our friends. Otherwise it’ll be pure magazines, a space to feed the needs of the most obsessive magaholic, as well as helping newbies reach towards magazine nirvana. Browsing will be encouraged, and there’ll be room to sit and read.
If you’re a regular reader of the Journal you’ll know exactly the stock to expect: a broad range of the most innovative and creative magazines. Independents of course, but also the best mainstream titles and a few rarities from abroad.
With the initial plans to open in November already proving over-optimistic, I can’t hide my excitement any longer so am sharing some work-in-progress pictures here; scroll to the end of this post and work upwards.
This post will be updated step-by-step as we near our December launch. Sign up for our newsletter to keep up with progress too.

Next up the floor is being cleaned up, then the full fit-out happens, the magazines arrive… and we open. First day trading: Friday 11 December.
