‘A greedy attempt to document Asian food and identity’

What started as a physical way to document recipes has since become a sought-after indie food zine. This is now the fifth issue of the incredibly sweet, very readable Fatboy Zine.

For this issue, the team travelled all the way from London to Taiwan to explore Taiwanese identity through the medium of food. In editor Chris O’Leary's words:

‘Openness and ingenuity guide Taiwanese expression right now. We move past the need for labels and definitions to talk about good food, art and creativity.’ In a nutshell? ‘Taiwan isn’t worried about what you think.’

Featuring six contributors and six recipes, from Youtiao Rice Rolls to Ostrich Egg Omelettes, Pineapple Shrimp to Clay Pot Rice.

On the Journal
At Work With Chris O’Leary: ‘I believe at its most raw level, local food culture can show you how people treat eachother, like Yum Cha (dim sum) in Hong Kong or Kamayan in the Philippines, they’re both so communal based, which I find in the people of both countries.’
