Buffalo Zine #22

190 x 240 mm, 300 pages
London, UK
Biannual, since 2010
Publishers and creative direction: Adrián González-Cohen, David Uzquiza

Following an honest reckoning with the financial reality of modern magazine production last issue, it was touch and go whether cult fashion biannual Buffalo would be returning with a 22nd issue. Thankfully, we needn’t have worried; the team are no strangers to perseverance, as the magazine’s constant reinvention since its 2010 debut attests.

Conceived as a scrapbook—ring-bound, with sections of blank and lined pages for readers to fill in throughout—issue #22 is described by editor-in-chief Adrian González-Cohen as ‘an issue by people, for people’. Inside, friends, colleagues and an assortment of unique personalities lifted straight from the streets of London, Madrid and Paris, appear alongside familiar faces—from designer and cover star Andreas Kronthaler to the influential Berlin-based artist and performer Vaginal Davis. Accompanying text gives an insight into the varied lifestyles of the featured creatives.

Coinciding with the launch of magCulture’s very own pop-up at Selfridges this spring, the Buffalo team set up shop in one of the iconic department store’s Oxford Street windows for a stretch of the issue’s creation—part of a wider programme celebrating club culture. From there, they set to work street casting and shooting the scrappy and subversive 20-page fashion editorial featured towards the back of the issue.
