Mother Tongue was launched by two mothers tired of the traditional media portrayal of motherhood. In place of idealised aspiration and agony aunt problem-solving, the boldly-designed magazine focuses on the complex, real lives of mothers and the issues they share around ‘art, sex, pop culture, politics, food and a few things in between’.

This tenth edition celebrates double figures with a baby pink cover starring American actress, artist and producer Lucy Liu ahead of her upcoming art exhibition in New York City, and starring roles in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and crime drama ‘Superfakes’.

Inside, Jerrie Tan reflects on her unconventional pregnancy cravings for ‘pregnancy-coded’ horror films, a response—she believes—to an anti-natalist undercurrent in certain feminist circles she once moved through, Erykah Badu guest stars as an advice guru remedying various readers woes, and Stephanie Wittels Wachs contemplates smoking as an antidote against tradwifery and—despite remaining a non-smoker herself—confesses her secret urge to indulge in the habit.
