A basketball magazine created by women, the team behind Flagrant are ‘used to hoops—jumping through them, watching them, and playing them.’ With a focus on the stories of women and BIPOC women, this compact publication aims to offer a different perspective on this popular sport.
Inside issue eight, you’ll find a vibrant trail of birds-eye-view photographs of global, public basketball courts captured by Austin Bell, documenting the diversity of terrain from Brooklyn to Bohol to Bangkok. Inserted in between are uplifting stories, including a feature on Allison Hueman’s ‘larger than life’, 250-foot-long mural for the Golden State Valkyries team, steeped in mythological imagery. Plus, an illustrative article on the omniscient, Coldplay-concert-CEO-exposing Jumbotron and the well-oiled machine that has made it an iconic source of captivation in every NBA stadium.
