‘Spaces. Objects. People.’

Thick, perfect-bound and comprising Scandi aesthetics, well-established title Ark Journal brings together architecture, design and art to show how the different disciplines interact.

This latest edition focuses on the home and the studio as ‘Self-Portraits’, approaching these spaces not through the conventional architectural lens of form and proportion, but through the more personal ways in which a space can become ‘a larger body, a thinking mind, a lived philosophy’. This centring of the personal is mirrored in the issue’s features: from a visit to Apparatus founder Gabriel Hendifar’s New York loft to the art-filled Naples home of Italian gallerist Lia Rumma. Elsewhere, studios unveil work at different stages of completion and reflect their owners’ personalities. Michaël Borremans’ sleek walnut shelves and industrial walls, for instance, echo the meticulous sensibility of a man who paints only in a suit.
