LookDeeper is a new spiral bound zine ‘that centres and highlights disability culture, creativity and community’, explored through themed editions featuring interviews with creatives living with disabilities, insightful and multifaceted storytelling, empowering visual editorials and cultural commentary.
This fourth edition—titled ‘Frail Youth’ and dedicated to the memory of Ellie Cartwright—is devoted to frequently overlooked coming-of-age stories from disabled youth, placing emphasis on the breadth and subjectivity of experience. As editor-in-chief Ellie Darby-Prangnell writes in her editorial: ‘This issue presents an exploration into the nuances of growing up disabled within a society that cannot hold sickness and youth as one.’
Inside, artist and cover star Rowan O’Bryan shares her photography project ‘The Familiar Pinch’, an alternative exploration of girlhood starring four girls who live with cystic fibrosis; Corrie Ferguson delves into her love of candid and confessional poetry, discovered after a medical trauma at age 13; Edith Lunden offers a narrative account of her nighttime routine living with chronic illness; Ben Lee opens up about coming to terms with his congenital agenesis diagnosis; plus, discover plenty more subversive features, alongside fashion editorials spotlighting subcultures and Disability Pride Month.
