‘Boxing lifestyle and culture’

Modern Boxing Journal is a new, slow-paced boxing title, ‘born out of a passion for prize fighting’. Alongside in-depth profiles of amateur and professional fighters, the magazine is populated with fascinating features on the sport’s surrounding culture, leavened by charming pencil illustrations and atmospheric photography.

British boxing legend Frank Bruno leads this issue,  featuring an exclusive conversation (over tea and scones) inside, covering advice to young boxers, his personal mental health journey, as well as a meditation on the legacy he has left so far. Other highlights include Timothy Kwon’s intimate monochromatic portraits of the eclectic boxing community of L.A.’s Forj gym; an illustrated overview of five amusingly dubbed ‘signature punches’, including the ‘Manila Ice’ and ‘Susie Q’; plus, an interview with Malachi Kirby, the star of Disney+’s new boxing period drama, ‘A Thousand Blows’, bridging boxing and entertainment.
