‘Culture, Society & Shit’
The small-format magazine poking fun at the sometimes dark sides of human behaviour returns sporting a royal blue cover; this time the Terrible People team address the topic of ‘Failure’ through a mix of essays, interviews and illustration.
Leaf through a series of varied takes on the theme: Layla Mahmood explores our perfunctory approach to nutrition and failure to find time to eat; Em Revill delves into our penchant for humiliation humour across shows such as ‘You’ve Been Framed’, and platforms like Vine, YouTube and TikTok; and Roxy Merrell investigates the influx of Medieval pop culture references, symptomatic of our failure to move forward.
Plus, flip to the centre of the issue to discover a petite silver insert featuring an interview with Franco-Algerian polymath Lissia Benoufella (aka Habibitch), who reflects on tools of collective resistance and shifting our focus from personal to systematic failure.
On the Journal
At work with Oriane Pawlisiak: ‘As surprising as it may be for a magazine called Terrible People, our goal is to inspire the best in people! We aim to make our readers question what’s truly terrible and reflect on their own behavior in society by highlighting two kinds of terribleness: what we’ll call subjective terribleness and morally objective terribleness.’
