Founded in 1896, the AR has a proud tradition of challenge and criticism, scouring the globe for architecture that provokes and inspires, and relying on its immense archive and critically acclaimed writers to shape architectural discourse. Combine this with a rich history of contemporary editorial design and you have a magazine of interest beyond its natural architectural audience.

This March 2026 issue is dedicated to the ‘W Awards’, championing women and non-binary people who have made significant contributions to the discipline of architecture—whether in theory or in practice. Amongst those celebrated are the awardees of the Jane Drew Prize and the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize, with a painting by the latter—Lubaina Himid, who was granted the award for her creative practice’s pioneering interrogation of spatial frameworks—featuring on this issue’s cover. As ever, you’ll also discover stand out architectural projects spanning the globe, from Evelyne Vanhoutte’s modernisation of a 19th century military base in Ghent—now a functional and spacious government headquarters—to the design studio PK Inception’s development of eight public and educational buildings across the holy city of Nashik.
