A new hardback title from the team behind Present Space, which, much like its sister publication, takes a visual and considered approach to its subjects: ‘a cross-continental collection of architecture, design, travel, food, wellness and fashion’.
There’s a marked sense of serenity throughout the spaces features in this sophomore edition, with Hollyhock House captured at golden hour by Ryan James Caruthers for the front cover. Inside, readers can explore the storied history of this twentieth century LA home—commissioned by heiress and aspiring bohemian Aline Barsndall and brought to life by Frank Lloyd Wright—with accompanying photographs drawing attention to ornamental details, inspired by Wright’s 1905 trip to Japan. Other highlights include a tour of ‘Cafe Tondo’— a former tyre shop turned neon-lit bar in Chinatown—conceived by Mexican designer Abraham Campillo, who wanted to bring a slice of his home country to LA; a spotlight on the twin flame restaurants ‘Central Restaurante’ and ‘Trattoria Del Ciumbia’, which are contrasting in aesthetic and food but similar in their values; and, a feature on NBA star Jaylen Brown.
