Editor-in-chief: Blake Abbie

A Magazine Curated By describes itself as ‘a fashion magazine that explores the universe of a chosen fashion designer in each issue… Each issue celebrates this designer’s ethos: their people, their passion, their stories, emotions, fascinations, spontaneity and authenticity.’

This special Swiss bound issue is titled ‘A Manual for Living Curated for Nike’, and adopts an interactive approach to exploring the brand that encapsulates its ‘Just do it’ ethos. According to editor-in-chief Blake Abbie: ‘Informed by athletic achievement, design leadership and scientific invention, the impetus to make this issue was to understand how Nike lives and breathes—how the brain and body might function ‘on Nike’—and how that thinking may be applied beyond the sports arena.’

Features are divided into five sections: ‘Mind’, ‘Body’, ‘Soul’, ‘Desire’, and ‘Imagination’, representing the key tools employed by the Nike team across their practice. Inside, you’ll find conversations between the likes of critic Hans Ulrich Obrist and Chief Design Officer Martin Lotti, Chief Science Officer Matthew Nurse and neuroscientist and regular Nike collaborator Poppy Crum, and two-time Olympic champion Ashton Eaton and Senior Director of Athlete Innovation Tobie Hatfield. Elsewhere, features delve into the visual language of sportswear, performance timekeeping, and the Fibonacci-inspired land art of American multidisciplinary artist Lita Albuquerque, interwoven between photo editorials and exercises spanning a colour personality quiz and an acoustic sequence test.
