The quarterly magazine of New York-based non-profit photography foundation of the same name, Aperture is the flagship representation of their commitment to contemporary photography. 

This special issue is guest edited by Japanese photographer/architect Hiroshi Sugimoto. The main body of the issue, titled ‘Stop Time,’ opens with an interview with Sugimoto by Michael Famighetti; Sugimoto then contributes an essay on photography and time, and an annotated selection from his personal collection of objects—including a Noh mask, space food, and a portrait of Marcel Duchamp by Man Ray. Marigold Warner visits the site of Sugimoto’s famous seascape series of photographs, there’s a history of camera obscuras, a look at Newtons discovery of the optics of colour, and a look at how photographers have used their cameras to try and stop time.
