‘The magazine for modernists’
The magazine about the seemingly everlasting British subculture of the Mod. Covering style, music, film and fashion from a ‘modernist angle’, Detail includes everything you need to know about the Mod scene, with contributions from the stylish subculture’s insiders. As well as the print mag, each issue includes a Spotify playlist based on the content inside.
This special edition for Spring 2026 has been guest-edited by Paul Weller, The Jam’s former frontman. With a strong focus on music and menswear, editor Claire Mahoney describes the issue as ‘Paul Weller, uncut, slightly edited for swear words, but totally honest and authentic.’
Inside, discover how Mods and skinheads brought flair and individuality to their outer London estates in the mid-1970s; examine sketches of Weller’s latest purchase from long-time collaborator Tom Arena’s atelier in St James; and hear from director Nick Bray on the enduring allure of ‘The Small World of Sammy Lee’ and what inspired him to adapt it for the stage. Elsewhere, Maryland-born soul singer Jalen Ngonda revisits the formative moments that sparked his love for music, while Weller shares 10 tracks from his personal playlist alongside a guide to his favourite London shops.
