Noble Rot #41

London, UK
Editors: Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew
Art director: Dan Keeling

From the people behind the eponymous London wine bar and restaurants comes the magazine that started it all. After 10 years and over 40 print issues, Noble Rot is arguably still the indie wine magazine, rewriting the rules of wine coverage.

While still serving up top-notch food, wine and restaurant writing, the team repeatedly return to the magazines underlying glue: travel. Arriving just in time for holiday season, this 41st issue uncorks a cuvée of stories from wine regions, restaurants and destinations across the globe. Inside, returning Rotter Lily Allen reflects on what makes a meal truly great; the NR team meet comedian, actor and director Aziz Ansari at Ottos in London; and the NR sommeliers embark on a mammoth rosé tasting marathon—the results of which can be decoded in Gary Taxalis charmingly bored cherub (aka ‘Whispering Angel) on the cover. Elsewhere, ‘gut guru’ Tim Spector celebrates the glories of fermentation; Portugal’s steep Douro Valley slopes offer precious drops of unfortified wine; and Hokkaido-based vigneron Takahiko Soga crafts a Japanese version of pinot noir. Plus, a guide to Athens, as it re-emerges as one of Europe’s most exciting wine and dine destinations.

If you’re on the hunt for some last minute holiday reading, look no further; NR’s 41st offering is the perfect travel companion for every budding vinguardista.
