A newspaper-format project created by photographer Paul Fisher, Republic of England showcases Fisher’s work alongside archival imagery and snippets of bold headline text and poetry, offering a suggestive visual commentary on aspects of contemporary British society and national identity.
This is the fifth issue for Spring/Summer 2026, collating snapshots of everyday life that, when combined, paint a picture of the plurality of British identity and lived experience. As ever, the issue is predominantly visual; however, a new segment, ‘RoE Art’, delves into the work of four inspiring women artists—from a landmark solo show dedicated to Louise Bourgeois at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, to a photograph of the Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thi Kim Lai, a ubiquitous piece of propaganda, re-contextualised in Fisher’s analysis.
