Founded by the Ukrainian fashion and documentary photographer Julie Poly in 2021, Berlin-based biannual Temptress is a glossy bilingual art magazine dedicated to the exploration of ‘eroticism and its representation in the modern world.’ Allied with feminist and queer causes and committed to creating a space for open-minded dialogue, it platforms a diverse array of artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, poets, and illustrators whose varied identities mirror the breadth of human experience.
Experimenting with the issue’s theme, ‘Money’, this sixth edition features an EMV microchip and 3D embossed title on the cover, playfully referencing the design of a contactless debit card. ‘We’re not here to make money comfortable’, editor Julie Poly writes in her opening editorial; instead the issue attempts to explore money’s complex relationship with ‘desire, shame, hunger, contracts, fantasies, and a silence that says more than any bank statement’. Inside, you’ll find an interview with Spanish artist Santiago Sierra on his controversial performance art, a provocative photo editorial starring Swedish artist and photographer Arvida Byström, and a dissection of ‘the rise of new-wave red pill content for women’. Choose between two covers: a glitzy portrait of American performance artist Amanda Lepore, or a low-res screengrab from footage of a police raid on a Ukrainian brothel.
Plus, a fruity scratch-and-smell sticker sheet in collaboration with Jouissance Parfums.
