magCulture Meets The Modernist
For July’s edition of magCulture Meets we’re delighted to welcome Eddy Rhead and Jack Hale, two of the founders of Manchester-based quarterly The Modernist. This smart little magazine examines 20th century modernist architecture and design through news, reviews and musings.
Issue 27’s theme is ‘High’ and features everything from Scottish high schools to the sky-high glamour of Concorde. The mag moves from small town America to Rotterdam and Naples eventually leaving earth behind completely and venturing off into the cosmos. As you might expect high buildings are also well represented, with a variety of artists each looking up, in their own very different ways. We’re looking forward to hearing from them at our shop, situated at the base of London’s first council-built tower block.
Inside the issue you’ll find the work of Chris Leslie, acclaimed photographic documenter of Glasgow; Carlos Traspaderne a Spanish photographer who only shoots with film cameras; illustrations by Nick Coupland; a trip up the Rotterdam Euromast with Pieter Kuster and a flight into space with Eddy Rhead.
As ever, the evening will see an illustrated talk followed by an audience Q&A, beers and a chance to browse and buy from the magCulture shelves.
Thursday 5 July
Doors opens at 6.30pm and the talk will kick off at 7pm
