All 5,000 copies of the latest issue of Slanted magazine feature a unique front cover image. The pictures, based on an existing body of work by artists Sylwana Zybura and Tomas C. Toth, are the result of an experiment with machine learning, highlighting the theme of the issue, AI. We hear from Editor-in-chief Lars Harmsen about the process.

We meet the Buffalo Zine team as issue 13 arrives, one of their weirdest but best issues yet: a spiral-bound collection of photo stories using viral memes as the visual theme, alongside several heavyweight essays about the nature of viral content. For its 500th issue, French newspaper supplement M Le magazine du Monde published a special issue last month, collecting together all 500 of its front covers to date. The cover of the special issue was plain white; you had to look inside for the key to that.

As the latest issue is published, editor Michael Ray explains ‘We seek artists of all sorts who’ll surprise our readers and make beautiful editions.’ The brand new issue is designed by Choctaw/Cherokee artist Jeffrey Gibson.

This beautifully produced, large-format launch is the perfect riposte to anybody thinking that the interiors magazine is a tired genre. Sized just under A3, the unbound pages of Objection flow across the table like prints, revealing a series of clever editorial ideas.

The annual issue of this beautiful, hand-finished publication is always a highlight on our schedule. This tenth issue was planned as a reflection on the passing of time; the intended process was hijacked by the Coronavirus, but the issue is perhaps all the better for that.
