Schnitt is an exciting new title from Germany, exploring big ideas concerning the converging disciplines of ‘architecture, design, art, and society’, with the magazine’s dedication to innovation reflected in their experimental approach to design. Across its matt pages you’ll find a carefully considered blend of features, interviews with architects and designers, and elegant photography.
This tactile third issue leads by engaging readers’ sense of smell, with a textured scented cover drawing attention to how we engage with printed matter, as well as pushing the boundaries of the medium. Themed ‘Senses’, the issue seeks to unpack ‘how they shape our perception, spark memories, draw us in or push us away’. Divided into three somewhat esoterically-titled segments—‘Soft Encounters’, ‘Layered Awareness’ and ‘Burnt Signals’—features explore the democratic language of touch, unpack perfumery 27 87’s commitment to the olfactory present, reflect on Iammi and Materia-Studio’s recent multi-sensory installation at Milan’s MelzoDodici showroom, and delve into modern digitalisation’s impact on the phenomenological experience of craving. Plus, interviews with the likes of turntable specialist’s Thuono Audio, artist duo Beka & Lemoine, and AI-assisted coffee machine designer Tina Bobbe.
