‘The water’s fine!’
A new publication hailing from Glasgow, self-effacing yet punchy Piscine exists to nurture contemporary underground culture and showcase new work from emerging writers and artists.
This sophomore edition debuts a large newsprint format, bearing the tongue-in-cheek title ‘Same Again’. Opening with an earnest dose of ‘gloomcore’, the team lament some unfortunate closures and redevelopments of Glaswegian cultural spaces and landmarks; but, they assure, there’s still some hope, as evidenced by the myriad artists featured inside the issue that are still managing to carve out time to create between hours spent ‘pulling pints, steaming milk, serving food, washing plates of food, and cleaning.’
Inside, Isobel Greslow delivers an amusing play-by-play of an episode of ‘Made in Chelsea’, dovetailed by a candid narration of her nightly pre-work routine; 72-year-old underground musician Tony Morris reflects on his relationship with religion following a dicey bicycle accident; Conor O’Riordan delves into his experience—both memorable and mundane—of hosting travellers via the ‘Couchsurfing’ app; Mike Hill reviews an uneventful loop on the Glasgow Underground; and new Glaswegian galleries R.A.T and Horsepower contribute introductory statements to the magazine.
