London, UK
Annual
First published in 2024
Editor-in-chief and creative director: Joseph Yorke-Westcott
Design: Lukman Ipese

Launched at the tail end of 2024, Butu Mag is a small format arts and culture magazine with a focus on platforming artworks, creatives and stories often overlooked in mainstream discourse. Combining candid photography, meditative essays, interviews, poetry and art—held together by a vibrant and no-nonsense page design, it provides a refreshingly optimistic outlook on the state of contemporary creativity.

Titled ‘Process’, this sophomore edition turns its attention towards the subjectivity and flux of creative journeys. As editor-in-chief Joseph Yorke-Westcott (aka ‘Yorke’) reflects in his editorial: it’s as much ‘a celebration of the ‘Why’ and the ‘How’ behind creativity’ as it is a recognition of the finished product. Inside, Joseph Sadler’s 10-page essay draws parallels between whale watching and writing, Yorke-Westcott interviews cover star, dj and co-founder of the ascendent no_one club night Rishi, as well as ‘Irish genre-benders’ Negro Impacto, in a conversation spanning identity, inspiration and daily rituals, and a spotlight is put on renegade designer Eilis Searson’s experimental, research-led RCA class ‘TEXTUAL’.
