‘That’s football. That’s life.’
The wonderfully-named, small-format ‘Art & Football’ magazine—a crossover with a longer history than may at first seem the case.
Arriving on the pitch a little late, this issue of OOF is World Cup-focused, with Zinedine Zidane kissing the trophy on the French-themed front cover. Inside, find more from the same shoot, marking France’s 1998 World Cup victory. There’s also a set of fabulous Ghanaian posters celebrating the tournament.
The realities of the modern World Cup are not ignored: a polemical piece asks how football and politics do/don’t mix, questioning sportswashing. Plus a brilliant set of photographs of goalposts from around the world, with photographer Neville Gable considering their political symbolism.
