Justsmile is a magazine to be found at the ‘cross-section of fine art, fashion, ideas, self-expression, and inclusivity’, all the while working to shine a light on Black and People of Colour’s (PoC) work in particular.
Issue seven for Fall/Winter 2025 is titled ‘What We Carry Forward’, returning to ideas from the past, crediting their beginnings while showcasing them in a modernised form. This time there are two cover stars: American artist, community activist and co-chair of the Prada Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, Theaster Gates, and British multi-instrumentalist and producer Bradley Miller, aka cktrl (Can’t Keep to Reality).
Also inside: artist and restauranteur Lucien Smith reflects on his career to date and explains why opening a reimagined FOOD in Soho, New York, is the most meaningful project of his career thus far; artist Kiyan Williams speaks with Zoë Hopkins about the recurring motifs of transgression and debris of history present in his work; and collector Bernard Lumpkin—whose Lumpkin-Bocuzzi Family Collection is the subject of the best-selling book, ‘Young, Gifted and Black: A New Generation of Artists’—discusses collecting art as a form of stewardship for people of African descent.
