Crash #107

280 x 400 mm, 144 pages
Paris, France (English-language)
Biannual
Editor in chief and creative director: Armelle Leturcq
Design: Manon Pigeon

What began in the 1990s as a radical art magazine out of France, has since become the revered large-format art biannual publication Crash. The goal was to break down the boundaries of the art world, championing non-career artists and personalities with no agenda other than to breach reality.

This is ‘The Art Issue’, featuring artists and art world intermediaries striving for greater access and diversity across the arts. Inside, Florian Martin-Wester, Director of the historical Galerie du Crous, shakes up the structure of the space, inviting young artists to exhibit their work for free; Lise Guéhenneux writes in praise of ‘La Marrade’, the exhibition currently on display at LAAC Dunkirk showcasing 78 female artists using ‘laughter as a weapon of activism’; editor-in-chief Armelle Leturq speaks to Idea Books co-founder Angela Hill about her return to photographic work; and, acting newcomer Lily Mcinerny discusses her journey so far and the behind the scenes processes that enable her to deliver truthful performances.

As always, you’ll also discover plenty of full bleed photography inside: this time there’s eight portraits of New Yorkers—stood in front of a sparkling Hudson River—photographed by Bruce Gilden, as well as a playful 26-page fashion editorial—a fruitful collaboration between model Britt Liberg and the German photographer and trained acrobat Isabelle Wenzel.
