Weed is a new magazine spotlighting queer art/ists, the environment, and all its entanglements. The title takes inspiration from its definition: to be ‘unruly, spontaneous and unpredictable’.
This debut issue, dedicated to ‘earth’, features interviews with queer artists that explore, question, and reflect on topics such as dirt, trees and forests, as well as sex and the body as a landscape. Featured conversations include Rafael Perez Evans, who reflects on reclaiming the stigma of queerness as ‘dirty’ through his art; Jack Partlett, who traces the history of the queer community on New York’s Fire Island; and Jennifer Calivas, who shares how an experience of sexual harassment at the beach inspired her series ‘Self-Portrait While Buried’.
