‘Exploring the transformations sweeping our world’

Noema is published by The Berggruen Institute, ‘established in 2010 to develop foundational ideas about how to reshape political and social institutions in the face of these great transformations.’ In ancient Greek, noema means ‘thinking’ or the ‘object of thought.’

Issue six is themed ‘Paradigm Shifts,’ and addresses the shift from global connectivity to  a more nationalistic, closed state of mind across our planet. Paradigm shifts come and go, but this is the real thing.

Always a thoughtful and insightful read, this issue offers a look at what the death of languages means for the unique knowledge embedded in them; Trump’s climate denial is positioned as a gift to China; and the use (and abuse) of the humble bulldozer is discussed as a cautionary tale about technology without safeguards.
