A new issue sees the team at the ‘magazine for architectural entertainment’ draw once again from their playful bag of print tricks; this time the magazine features an atypical die-cut edge—a first indication that ‘domesticity’, this issue’s theme, is not always what it seems on first glance.
On the theme, guest editor Frida Escobedo writes: ‘It is precisely because private domestic spaces often function as microcosms of broader social relations that seemingly trivial endeavours—like remodelling a kitchen, furnishing a living room, or designing a beach house—can reveal clues and configurations worth examining in the search for better forms of life… The question remains: How do the larger structures that shape our world mirror themselves in our most intimate spaces?’
Featuring interviews with Sam Chermayeff, Lina Ghotmeh, Piet Oudolf, José Esparza Chong Cuy, Tatiana Bilbao and Peter Saville, a glimpse into Frida’s internal process through her layered scrapbook, a line-up of 10 creative forces currently shaping Mexico City’s design landscape, an eye-opening feature on the history of domestic labour’s entrenchment within architecture, and a portfolio of imaginative living spaces—from Roger Ferri’s ‘Top-Hat House’ to José León Cerrillo’s modernised townhouse.
