‘For lovers of weeds and wildflowers’

Wort is a new publication devoted to the archaic relationship between humans and plants, one deemed fundamental to human existence. It takes its name from an ancient term for plants used as food or medicine. Each issue brings together a selection of contributors working in herbalism—the use of plants as medicine—at a community level, platforming ‘plantwork that is deeply holistic and intersectional.’

In this fourth edition, find features covering the likes of our evolving relationship with ‘invasive’ plant species Himalayan balsam, asking if we can uproot our long-standing beliefs, a deep dive into the burgeoning potential of mycoforestry—the use of fungi in forest management systems—and the latent potential of cordials in coronary medicine. Plus, find poetry inspired by a fairy story from Hans Christian Anderson, and dainty pen and ink drawings woven throughout.
