Crosscurrent #9

235 x 300 mm, 252 pages
Biannual, published since 2022
Editor-in-chief & creative director: Clarke Rudick
Art director & design: Emily Schofield

Crosscurrent describes itself as ‘a manual resource for discovery’, exploring fashion, art, architecture, and ideas. What makes it stand out from a crowded field is the people it chooses to feature and the way it presents them.

Editor-in-chief Clarke Rudick always pulls together a unique series of subjects, ranging from the well-known to the lesser, but soon-to-be known. Art director Emily Schofield designs the texts and accompanying images with plenty of room to breath—no page is full of text and no image extended to full bleed—giving a feel of calm conversation throughout.

Issue nine for Fall/Winter 2026 explores the binary of ‘familiarity’ and its antonym, ‘unfamiliarity’, as a touchpoint for showcasing established creatives in a new light and, conversely, introducing newcomers like old friends. As usual, the issue features a plethora of covers to choose from, spotlighting London-formed electronic ‘girl-pop’ duo NEW YORK; an installation by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone; a fashion editorial exhibiting up-and-coming designer Colleen Allen’s romantic reworked designs, modelled by new faces Iris Lasnet and Jesse Rinderknecht; Betsy Gaghan captured by candid photographer Mark Steinmetz; and, ‘The Women’, a street cast editorial shot by Crosscurrent regular Anders Edström and styled by Ann-Sofie Back, featuring elderly Stockholm natives.

Alongside the cover features, readers will find an interview with LA-based songwriter Truman Sinclair, delving into his musical influences, go-to gear, and the adventure of touring; Amy Zimmerman profiles Canadian musician Melissa Auf der Maur—former bassist for Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins—following the success of her 90s rock memoir ‘Even the Good Girls Will Cry’; and, Laura May Todd pays a visit to the Turi Simeti Archive Foundation in Milan.
