Named after the sun deity in Basque mythology, Italian biannual Eki devotes itself to ‘those who love and get inspired from light.’ Each issue explores a different manifestation—following night, sun, digital, spiritual and erotic light.

Wrapped in a textured and iridescent sea-blue cover, this lovingly crafted sixth edition reflects on the interplay of light and water—in art and nature as much as in sustaining life. As the editors put it: ‘The bond between water and life is unbreakable. Equally significant, however is the connection between water and light. This link is vital not only in the natural world but also in the artistic realm.

Inside, a plethora of painters, photographers, filmmakers and writers share how they use light and water to shape their kaleidoscopic creative practices; responses range from practical reflections on the chemical development of analogue images to conversations spanning the sea’s expansive symbolic connotations.

You’ll also find a handful of inserts scattered throughout, including a fold-out poster, ‘waterfront green’ jelly photo filter and petite light blue envelope containing a poem.
