‘Adventures in sign painting’
Exploring sign painting craft, community, and culture, BLAG (or Better Letters Magazine) is a neat little publication dedicated to the craft and all that exists around it: the subcultures, communities, its rich history, and more. Its content spans both time and space, with contributions from several countries and five continents.
This (belated) Summer 2025 issue boasts 48 extra pages and is dedicated to Letterheads and the art form’s history and traditions. Inside, you’ll find a conversation with the ‘Father of the Letterheads’, Jerry Albright, ‘50 Big Ones’ from the movement’s five decades of cultural input, a history of the industry’s tongue-in-cheek motto IOAFS (It’s Only A Fucking Sign), and plenty more.
On the cover of this issue: Elaine Wallis and Noella Cotnam hard at work on the ‘Signs of the Times’ trompe-l’œil tribute that now adorns the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio, photographed by Natalie Grilli. Accompanying the issue, you’ll also find a double sided cover wrap, created by Noel B Weber.
